Is this Suburbia?

We moved out of the city for many reasons; the ability to afford a place with enough bedrooms to raise kids, good schools, and a back yard on the top of the list. What we didn't consider is how much friendlier people might be outside of the city.

One of my first experiences in Alameda was getting honked and screamed at by a very disgruntled young woman because she didn't want to have to drive around the car that I was being dropped off from in a parking lot in front of Safeway. Because of this first incident, I figured that people in Alameda were the same mixture of insane, aloof, and indifferent as people in San Francisco.

After our first week here in town, I can confirm that this first impression was very inaccurate. After living in same building in San Francisco in for three years and never meeting a single person in our building, we have already met a handful of our neighbors here (from a safe distance). I can't even imagine what this place is like when people aren't trapped in their houses.
